Active At Conventions The Rev. Edward R. Glavin, chaplain, acted as chairman at one of the panel sessions of the third biennial moderators Conference of the NFCCS which was held Aug. 27 and 28 at the Hotel Cleveland, Cleveland, Ohio. He led the discussion on “The Federation’s Dimensions.” Father also attended the thirteenth National Congress of the NFCCS from Aug. 28 to Sept. 1 at the Hotel Cleveland. Saint Rose delegates to the National Congress included Nancy Ashley, ’58; Nancy Maher, ’59; Mary-Joan Vogler, ’57; and Jean Arachtingi, ’58. C.S.R. In Chicago . . . Today, all educators and concerned citizens agree that our colleges and universities face tremendous difficulties within the next few years. Since students and student governments have a vital concern in these problems, the Ninth National Student Congress held at the University of Chicago, Aug. 21-31, chose the theme, “Student Leadership in American Education.” At the University of Chicago the annual policy making body of the United States National Student Association reaffirmed the belief that student leaders can find in this challenge a large number of new Rosaverian Deadlines - The following deadlines for regular publicity for The Rosaverian during the first semester have been announced. Nov. 9 Nov. 11 ........................... Nov. 23 Dec. 6 ................................ Dec. 19 A reporter will be assigned to contact the vice-president or publicity chairman of each club on or befoer this deadline. The club representative should have all information available at this time. Events which are scheduled to occur within the week between this deadline and the date of publication will be covered if the club requests that space be reserved- Club news and general news items may also be left in the envelope on the bulletin board reserved for staff members of the Rosaverian. Saint Rose Delegation At S.S.C.A. In N.Y.C. A delegation of nineteen Sodalists from the College of Saint Rose attended the 26th colegiate sesion of the Summer School of Catholic Action, held at the McAlpin Hotel in New York from Sept. 4-7. Those representing the college were Father Edward Glavin, Sister Rosaire, Sister Margaret Maria, and the following students: Jane Vittengl, Gail Morrow, Loyola Hogan, Betty Anne Gargiulo, Mary Stauss, Mary Joan Vogler, Carol Hines, Mary Ellen Judge, Margie Grogan, Nancy Nuttall, Terry Pet ers, Rosemary Russell, Shirley Barringer, Mickey Brady, Roberta Jurash, Ruth Glavin, Nancy Ashley, Jean Arachtingi, and June Mangani. The theme of the special college session was “Mary, Seat of Wisdom,” dedicated to the “Education of the Whole Man for Time and Eternity.” It's A Small World . . . While traveling in Barcelona, Spain, this summer. Sister Thomas Francis and Sister Clara Agnes came into contact with Saint Rose. The Sisters were guests at the home of former Saint Rose student, Elisa Basoli and her family in Barcelona. Faculty Broadens Intellectual Horizons During Busy, Profitable Summer Study In Universities Abroad, At Home Seven C.S.R. faculty members toured Europe this summer. Abroad were Sister Charles Marie, Sister Thomas Francis, Sister Clara Agnes, Sister Benita, Sister Eugenia, Miss Helen Carey, and Mr. Walter L. Hahn. Sister Charles Marie was awarded a Fullbright grant to attend the Goethe Institute in Munich, Germany. With 24 other American teachers, Sister participated in a study-tour program designed to acquaint teachers with the language, life and conditions of modern Germany. Sister Thomas Francis and Sister Clara Agnes attended classes at the University of Valencia in Spain for five weeks, and toured eight European countries during the remaining five weeks. The ten-weeks study-travel tour was conducted by the University of San Francisco. Sister Benita, Sister Eugenia and Miss Carey joined the first Saint Rose sponsored tour while Mr. Hahn traveled throughout Spain and Portugal. —At Home This summer an exchange teacher program between C.S.R. and Fontbonne College, which is conducted by the Sisters of St. Joseph in St. Louis, Mo., brought Sister Grace Margaret and Sister Jeanne Pierre to teach at Fontbonne, while Sister Marguerite and Sister Mary Loretta of that college, taught summer courses at Saint Rose. Taking refresher courses at St. Lnuis University were Sister Roberta Joseph and Sister roles and responsibilities and an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution toward solving the problems of higher education in the United States. Constance Coniglio, ’58; Audrey Reece, ’59; and Doreen Roach, ’57; were among the 1,000 student leaders from the United States and the world who attended. Shadows, C.S.R. dramatic society, will hold tryouts for its major productions on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 1 and 2. Watch bulletin board for specific time and place. Elizabeth Catherine, while Sister Margaret Frances took a refresher course at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester. Continuing study this summer at Catholic University were Sister Jeanne Joseph, Sister Jane Teresa and Sister Mary Rosina; at Laval University, Canada, Sister M. Antonina; at Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Mass. (in connection with study at St. John’s University, Brooklyn), was Sister Clarence Paul; at St. Louis University, Sister Mary Dismas. Sister Noel Marie attended the Institute for Teachers of Mathematics at Williams College from July 2 to Aug. 11. Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the Institute’s aim is to broaden the knowledge of mathematics and to acquaint teachers with current research. Director of Public Relations, Miss Audrey Brown, attended the National College Public Relations Convention at Green-briar Hotel, White Sulphur Springs, West Va., from July 8 to 11. She also traveled to the Chatauqua Institute, Chatauqua, for a two week fund-raising course given by Syracuse University from July 23 to Aug. 3. Miss Edith Garofalo, Instructor in History, attended summer school at the University of Colorado in Denver, to study history. NEW DEAN . . . Dinneen has been named Chairman of the Religion and Philosophy Division. In the Sociology Department Mr. Joseph G. Green will replace Mr. Francis X. Avesing. Mr. Green, of Loudonville, formerly taught at the University of Dayton and at Regis College, Weston, Mass. Mr. Michael J. Pascual, instructor at Siena and resident of Newton-ville, will teach part time in the mathematics department.
